Lannister, 26 years. Dbkkd, 39 years. Munich, Bayern I like summer travel Darklight, 35 years. Tuan, 30 years. Munich, Bayern I like japanimation All the staff are very helpful, friendly and well informed about Munich and it's places of interest and things to do. The hotel is also a very popular meeting point for gays in Munich and outside. The quality provided is for a fair price.

I can recommend Hotel Deutsche Eiche. The rooms are good and large by European standards, with modern bathrooms, good beds. Very clean. A mini fridge in the room with complementary beer and water, a nice touch. Typical included continental breakfast. The hotel includes a mostly gay bar and restaurant with a very friendly clientele, and the nicest gay bathhouse I've ever been in -- highly recommended whether you stay in the hotel or not! I will definitely return to this hotel in the future and would recommend it especially for gay travelers.

Also, a good location easily walkable to city center and the gay section. The negatives are minimal but notable: It's very hard to get a taxi at this hotel and staff does not help with this. The rooms are a bit dark even with all the lights on. Most questionable is that the guy at the desk could not locate my reservation even though I had my confirmation number and a printout of the confirmation.

Luckily it was not a big problem because they had available rooms, but I had to be pushy to get him to honor the quoted rate. Not cool. This was a perfect City Break when we stayed here just before Christmas to savour the famous Christmas Markets, and enjoy Munich at its winter best. The Deutscher Eiche truly has a heart of oak, solid, dependable, and rich in history. From the simple on-line check-in, the quality of the welcome, the spotless rooms and quality bedding, or just the simple, freshly cooked breakfast you will not be disappointed.

Just jump off the No18 Tram and you are in the front door, or a short walk from the hotel and you are in the centre of the old city. This was our third stay, and we will be returning again this year.

Good food, excellent service, even if it is just a beer, dinner, or the great breakfast scrambled eggs and bacon are the best we were always satisfied. I ordered the schnitzel and this was perfectly cooked and served with a fresh salad garnish and piping hot French fries. Clean, simple, and mid price, ideal for a long weekend, or longer stay, quality and style in a great setting. This is a real gem! The location near Viktualien Markt is excellent.

You are 10 minutes from Marienplatz. The rooms are simple and small but more than adequate. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast included in the price is excellent! The gay vibe is very welcoming without being "in your face". This hotel has a few quirks and isn't for everybody. Otherwise, it's a very nice hotel in a great location that isn't too expensive for Munich. It's clean, modern, a very good breakfast is included, and the staff tries hard to be helpful.

The location is great as it's close to the Marienplatz, beer garden, good shopping, good restaurants, and public transit.

  • Essentially, it's in the middle of the action. Really convenient for seeing everything. I love that they have it set up for you to put your room key in a slot near the front door to turn on the lights in your room and when you leave the room, you take the key and all the lights are turned off. It's energy conscious and slick. The only clear downside of the room was the AC, which didn't cool the room as well as we liked. One quirk of the room was that the room was separated from the bathroom by frosted glass and the door to the bathroom was a sliding door that didn't quite close all the way. If you're a shy bathroom user, you won't like this.

Another quirk which seemed to be a German thing rather specific to this hotel was that the pillows weren't at all firm. If you're German, you're fine. If you're American, hey, you're the one that came here, not the other way around. The bathroom is a very good size. It's very stylishly appointed. The lighting is ample, which is a particular preference of mine. I prefer a lot of light. There is a tub and a shower in the bathroom.

The shower is roomy and the tub is pretty big. The sink and counter in our room were one continuous piece with plenty of room for toiletries. As well, the floor of the bathroom was heated. Another slick feature of the hotel room. The internet was free and a good speed.

The quirky thing with the internet access was that you had to log back in every time you wanted to use it, even if you'd put your computer or phone to sleep for just a few minutes. That's the kind of thing that drives me a little nutty, but, once you logged back in, service was fast and reliable. And, they provided a laptop computer in the room to use as well. The elevator was clearly a much later add on to the hotel.

It wasn't very big, a European style, it seems, and it didn't stop directly at any of the floors except the lobby. When the door opened to our stop, we then had to go down half a flight of stairs to our floor. This wasn't a big problem for us but it might be inconvenient for some and seems a little odd.
